More Time for Comments on Sweeping Changes to Decennial Census

Share

The U.S. Census Bureau announced an extension of the public comment period to November 2, 2026, on rule changes to the 2030 Census, titled “Decennial Census of the Population of Americans; Proposed Residence Criteria and Proposed Regulations for Demographic Questions.” (The comment period was previously scheduled to be closed on October 13.)

As covered in the September Update and a prior blog post, which includes links to numerous resources, the proposed changes would exclude non-U.S. citizens without a green card from the apportionment base (which is used to determine congressional representation) and remove race and ethnicity questions from the 2030 questionnaire.
