Census Bureau Hiring Temporary Field Reps

Share

As spotted by journalist Hansi Lo Wang, the U.S. Census Bureau is hiring temporary field representatives to run door-to-door and telephone interviewing for Bureau surveys, with positions lasting no longer than 90 days.

The job postings come despite a Trump Administration freeze on federal hiring.

Hansi reported that he “asked the bureau’s public information office why these positions are time-limited appointments with a 90-day not-to-exceed date, whether the bureau expects it will no longer need these positions to be filled after 90 days, and what other positions it’s asked the Office of Personnel Management to exempt from the hiring freeze.”

Stakeholders remain concerned about the ability of the Bureau to conduct necessary time-sensitive work, especially the upcoming 2026 Census Test, with potentially insufficient funding, reduced personnel, and restrictions on the Bureau’s ability to hire more.
