Voter Population Accuracy Act – H.R. 6335

Share

Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-NC-11) has introduced the Voter Population Accuracy Act (H.R. 6335), legislation that would require the Census Bureau to collect information on citizenship status in the decennial headcount. The bill, which currently has no cosponsors, was referred to the House Oversight and Accountability Committee for further consideration.

A new section would be inserted in Section 141 of title 13, United States Code, as follows:

In conducting the 2030 decennial census and each decennial census thereafter, the Secretary shall include in any questionnaire distributed or otherwise used for the purpose of determining the total population by States a checkbox or other similar option for the respondent to indicate, for the respondent and for each of the members of the household of the respondent, whether such individual is a citizen or national of the United States.

According to Rep. Edwards in his press release for the Act, With the ongoing invasion of our countrys borders and points of entry, we dont know whos entering our country or where theyre staying. Among other things, the census is used to determine congressional representation and inform funding for federal programs. The American people deserve to know how many citizens live in this country and how many noncitizens are here. The Voter Population Accuracy Act will once again require the Census Bureau to ask the basic, commonsense question of whether someone is an American citizen.
