AEI to Discuss Improving Measurement of Poverty

Share

Tied to the Census Bureaus release of their 2022 income and poverty estimates on September 12, 2023, an event at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) will break down the numbers and discuss what they mean for the United States economic well-being. Then, they will discuss the state of poverty measurement and how it can be improved in the future.

The AEI lunch event will be in-person and online.

Discussing the numbers will be Angela Rachidi, Rowe Scholar at AEI, Matt Weidinger, Rowe Scholar at AEI, Scott Winship, AEIs Director of the Center on Opportunity and Social Mobility, and Kevin Corinth, Deputy Director of the center.

Richard Burkhauser, an AEI nonresident senior fellow, will present on the history of poverty measurement, and then join a panel of other AEIers Bruce D. Meyer, Corinth, and Winship to talk about using administrative data and consumption data to improve poverty measurement.

A blog earlier this year from the Census Project covered some of the controversy over poverty measurement.
