The shutdown by the federal government on Friday night could not have come at a worse time for 2020 Census planning. That’s because it’s on the eve of the final, remaining, large-scale field test of new counting techniques for the next decennial.

How this wouldn’t be considered essential is beyond me when it’s required by the constitution. I’m signed up to take the enumerator test and got an email saying the test was cancelled. Then after the shutdown ended I got a followup saying, luckily, the test was back on. The census folks are obviously working double time to try and keep this thing on track.
