Stuart Levenbach has become the new U.S. Chief Statistician, replacing Mark Calabria in the position at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). While there has been no formal announcement, the Interagency Council on Statistical Policy website now lists Levenbach at OMB as chair of the council, and thus Chief Statistician.
The President had previously nominated Levenbach in November to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
According to an article in Bloomberg, “Levenbach is currently serving as OMB’s associate director for natural resources, energy, science and water — and he’ll continue to do so.”
The Census Project and members of our Advisory Committee met with Calabria and other OMB staff on January 9, 2026.
For more background on Levenbach, see this FedScoop article.
