Voluntary ACS bill Introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives

On July 29, U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-FL-17) introduced a bill, H.R. 4820, Freedom from Government Surveys Act. The bill, which would make participation in the American Community Survey (ACS) voluntary, is a companion measure to S. 265 which Senator Risch (R-ID) introduced in January 2025, as covered in the January Census Project Update.

Currently, H.R. 4820 has no cosponsors. The bill was referred to the House Oversight and Government Reform for further consideration.
